Rachel The Hat: First Ever DIY!!!

Well hello there ladies? Are you ready to get your DIY on?
Now first things first, do not expect anything advanced or ground-breaking here. I am a complete novice in the DIY area and therefore starting with the basics.
Secondly, where ever i can tell you the source of the original diy'er then i will always put it in the post. Crafting, customising and diy are all things i've wanted to do for a really long time but lacked confidence (and time... you know popping a baby out, raising him etc ;) to actually put my energies in to doing it. But after reading so many inspiring blogs i'm finally giving it a go and loving it.
So without further a do i present to you:
Customised shoes

Ok, so i've seen this done lots over the blogasphere, but specifically Vicky of Magpie Girl made me wanna go try this.
Here's what i did:
I had this pair of lace up brogues that i just did not wear. They had a dirty scuff on the front too so that kinda put me off wearing them.

So i bought some all purpose metallic silver spray:

Stuffed newspaper in the shoes to protect the insides and sprayed the hell out of them.

I let the first coat dry and bodied up with about 3 layers of paint

Tips:
*To spray the tongues and make a nice neat job i used cocktail stick to space the tongue from the shoe
*Make sure to spray about 20 cms away from the shoe, i was a bit of an eager beaver and sprayed up close and it looked all runny and blotchy
*Do put papers down, this stuff goes everywhere and watch out if its windy.. make sure you're not standing down wind or you'll end up with some silver looking skin!
*Don't leave your fab new shoes outside to dry, then go make yourself a congratulatory coffee and not realise its raining... :-/
*Do body up, the more the better.
* And don't forget to get some funky ribbon to use as laces, i plan on changing these out to some lovely polka dots or possibly some blue... oh the possibilities are endless. Interchangeable laces!

And then finally go wear your new pretty shoes!

The fab thing is you can pretty much do whatever colour you want, I'm thinking of going over these with GOLD for autumn/winter.
So there we have it! Rachel The Hat's first DIY!
Easy Peasy right?!
So, i hope you like it, and if you give it a go please do let me know!!
