Family Fun (& A very honest weekend outfit!)

Life isn't all glamour as a style blogger. Now you will all probably know me well enough to know I am not always dolled up to the nines ready for a jaunt with cocktails and swishy dresses and sky scrapper heels. As nice as that all sounds, its just not my life. And I am good with that.

And yes, I am wearing Uggs on my Style blog.. controversial I know ;)

But as soon as the clouds part and the rain stops we make every effort to head outdoors and get some fresh air. We all wrap up, including the dog, and the kids grab their scooters.
Those kids LOVE to scoot, we have had multiple scooters for them over the years as its the one thing they dearly love, and trust me ask them to walk and they will moan every step, bring their scooters and suddenly you have smiling happy, racing children.
Gimme the scooters every-time!
We most recently got some from Skatehut which is like a magical emporium of every young persons dreams. My step son is desperate for some Heely's, which I have to admit look pretty darn cool.. I mean shoes- with wheels.. why walk when you can glide! Ha!
As a parent if your kids are happy you are happy.. so in my books, scooter rock.

But when it comes to weekend practical wears I am all about the comfort and the warmth.
I recently received the most amazing Down Jacket from Trespass that is a whole new level of warmth for me.
With walking the dog all seasons its absolutely imperative to have a good coat.
Not high on the fashion catwalk stakes no, but warm, cosy and toasty.

When choosing my coat I knew it had to have a hood for those pesky downpours, have multiple pockets for my bits (read-doggy poo bags, yes yuck but the struggle is real folks) and also most importantly be warm enough.

The Tresspass Down Jacket is perfection. I went for classic black knowing it would go with everything and I would never bore of it, they do also have a lovely colour called vine- like a khaki colour, which I'm also rather partial to.
I also love that this coat has zips from both ends, so even though its quite long (which again is my complete preference.. who wants a cold bum, right?) when I get my power walk on I can unzip it slightly from the bottom zip to give me legs full range to stride.
I've tested this jacket through rain, frost and gale force winds these past few weeks and I now can't imagine not having it.

Sometimes comfort trumps everything else! Plus I kinda love dressed down Saturdays, don't you?

We Are Family...

Hi folks
I am currently in the middle of one of the worst weeks....ever.
Running a business in a recession is the hardest thing i have ever had to do. This all might sound a bit random -sorry.

In these tough times its family that keep you going...

Colourful bunch arent we

"cccccoooooooooowwwwwwwwws, mooooooooooo"

We are family :)

All i feel like doing right now is wrapping myself in my duvet and hiding from the world. I dont feel like wearing pretty dresses and nice shoes. I want to wear pj's and eat Nutella out of the jar.
The next few weeks may be very hard.
I'm going to try and continue getting up and at least getting dressed each day.
And if you dont see me within a week....send for help, the tracksuit brigade may have gotten me;)

Take care lovelies and really hope to be back with positive news and happy dresses soon.
xxx
Ps send good thoughts for my little business wont you... the more the better. Some good thoughts right now, could go a long way.

PPS these photos were taken about 3 weeks ago when we didn't have torrential rain and i was still relatively sane :-/

Blushing Flamingos!

Hello lovelies,
Did you have a nice weekend?
Yesterday was Mother's Day here in the UK, so i had a lovely day off from normally daily chores, hubby became a little house hubby for the day and my darling step-daughter bought me a beautiful flamingo scarf. Apparently she saw it and new i'd love it straight away. Girls got taste! Pink flamingos? Yes please!

Scarf: Gift from Mia (from Next)
Shirt dress: Joy on sale
Jean: Old from Next
Shoes& bag: Matalan, both on sale (shoes were £7 and bag £3.50)

So this was my mother's day outfit :) pretty and casual for all that lazing about i did, and a quick pop to the shops.
The shirt dress is so comfy and this gorgeous coral/blush colour, and currently on sale for £15.
And my new Matalan Mary Jane shoes are super comfy, they are that ideal shade that goes with lots.

If you follow me on Twitter @RachelTheHat, you may have seen that last week i dabbled in a bit of crafting with my lovely sis.
She has set up a gorgeous fabric and habadash online store The Sewing Boutique and we decided to do some crafting out of some of her stock

And fabric backed Holly Hobbie Picture for my nook
Self made skirt
Hubby and Mia thought the skirt looked like a picnic blanket, but i love it anyway! Its the first time i've made anything, obviously with A LOT of help from my sis, but i am totally hooked. I've picked out 3 more materials from her shop that will be making my next few projects. I've got the crafting bug!

Will keep you posted....
Well Hope you all have a great week, i have lots of posts lined up for this week so will see you very soon!! :)

Ps: have you entered my THANK YOU GIVEAWAY. Go on, go on, go on!

WOWIE!!

Hello All!

I feel like it's been a while again since I last blogged, I always have such good intentions to blog most days, and then before I know it, the day has passed and I haven't even written a word.
But even though I haven't been blogging, I've still been reading all the lovely blogs I follow.

Last week I was over at Cheryl's blog just fab blogger and the lovely lady has only gone and given me an award! YAY me! :) I was so chuffed as I have really enjoyed blogging since I started a few months back.
So here they are in all their spectacular glory:

Awww aren't they pretty!!
Along with these little beauties I have to tell you 7 things about myself and then pass them on to 10 other lovely blogs.
So here goes:
1. I'm married to my lovely hubby, we've been together 5 years and married for a year and a half and he is 14 years older than me, but he's a big kid.
2. I am the Finance Director of our business SMS. I never dreamt in a million years my career would go this way and I would be in the CCTV industry running a £1.2million turn over company.
3. I won Young Entrepreneur of the year in South Wales
4. My sister, Rhiannon is my best friend, we fought like cat and dog growing up, but now we're sooo close. We speak probably 5 times a day and could still have things to talk about.
5.My favourite colour is green, but I hardly own any green clothes.
6. My favourite disney film is Up. (Squirrel!!) And my fav films are The Matrix trilogy (hence why my son is called Neo!)
7. I have a very short attention span, I've wandered off about 5 times since writing this. I get distracted easily!

Wow, I could have gone on and on then! lol, Can't shut me up once I get started!

The 10 lovely blogs I would like to pass these on to are:
1. http://www.lovenikkih.com/
2.http://fashionistas-anonymous.blogspot.com/
3.http://www.girlnextdoorfashion.net/
4.http://girlandbird.blogspot.com/
5.http://lawmamaliz.blogspot.com/
6.http://passionforfashion1983.blogspot.com/
7.http://vintagevixon.blogspot.com/
8.http://stilettosanddiaperbags.blogspot.com
9.http://www.momfashionworld.com/
10.http://kellylovesvintage.blogspot.com/

That was actually more difficult than my 7 things as I follow so many amazing and varied blogs!

Been a busy old weekend/ week as we are off with the kids  and we have been trying to fill the days with fun. Fun for them, not so much for the parents. But it has been lovely.
Skirt: Vintage 1970's from ebay £6.00
Crochet Shrug: Warehouse, old
Sandals: Matalan, last summer
Wooden necklace: Primark

A lovely day in the park! The vintage skirt I'm wearing is just lovely, it's amazing, the quality of the cotton is so much better/ thicker than today's standards. I love wearing vintage, it always makes me wonder who wore it and where. Looking forward to wearing this through the autumn/ winter with thick tights and boots and wooly knitted cardigans.

Here's a few snaps from the week so far:
