The Gilet

I was having a discussion with my friend last week about gilets. Now before i get started on it, what do you call them (the furry thing i'm wearing here)?
I think to my american friends it's know as a Faux Fur Vest (is that right my transatlantic friends?)
But even here in the UK when i call it a Gilet (pronounced Jee-lay) i get some funny looks. Is it a waistcoat or a body-warmer or what?
To me its a gilet and i have to say, names aside i love mine.

Back to the conversation i was having last week, which may seem like a strange conversation, but as someone who enjoys talking about inanimate objects on a regular basis its actually quite the norm for me.
So she was wondering if they were worth the investment, after all its not like a coat, it has no sleeves and when really would you wear it.
My answer to that was: All the time.
You see i love my gilet and i did last winter too. I actually wear mine A LOT. Its just a super easy item to throw on over a sweater and rather than covering up the outfit, like a coat does, this just adds to it.
The texture, the layer and the added body warmth all make this one of my winter essentials.
I throw mine on if i'm just going from car to shops and home again, or the school run in the car, or out for lunch.
So a lot as you can see.

Its been particularity mild here so far this winter, but when you enter the shops its like you've inadvertently walked in to a sauna dressed in a snowsuit.
Last week I had a coat on and i literally thought i was going to pass out in New Look. My makeup was sliding off my face by the time i left the store and i realised then that the gilet is the perfect shopping companion. Your arms aren't inhibited leaving you to shop freely and you also don't feel like you could quite possibly sweat to death.
So that concludes my Gilet argument.

What are your thoughts?
Are you a fan of the Gilet/waistcoat/Vest?

Remix Files: The faux leather mini (& #Passion4Fashion Linkup)

I remember like it was yesterday, standing in Matalan's changing rooms, trying this faux leather skirt on and thinking to myself 'Will i actually wear it?'
Turns out it was a very worthy investment (even more so for its very small price tag of around £12 i think at the time) I have worn this skirt so so much over the 18 months. Its such a versatile great working piece that adds funk and edge to any outfit and a great all-season item.
Here's a few ways i've styled it over the last year and a half, and i haven't exhausted it yet either. Faux leather is a staple in my wardrobe, and this skirt is up there for me with ripped jeans and a trench coat.
I can't believe its yet to be worn with stripes or leopard print.. i have been missing out big time there! I think you may be seeing even more of this skirt over the next year again.
As for now i am absolutely smothered with a stinking cold and only my harry potter sweatshirt and joggers willl do. Outfit post friendly my face is not right now.. my poor nose...Rudolph[h comes to mind ;)
With a mustard shirt and gold trimmed booties

In summer for a boho/girly vibe with a kimono and heels

With a fedora, fierce booties and a gilet

Casual with a sweatshirt and biker boots

I absolutely love this skirt, juts so much potential!
Do you own a faux leather skirt and is a hard working piece for you?

Faux leather skirt as day wear & Passion For Fashion Link Up!!

This season i am loving faux leather. Its the edginess it brings to an outfit, the luxe feel and the remix-ability of it that seems to get me purchasing more and more pieces. Take this faux leather mini skirt. It is definitely something i would normally shy away from (massively) in the past, but with the new me trying different pieces this little skirt made it in to my faux leather collection, and im super glad it did.
When i picked it up in Matalan, i took it to try on and asked myself "is it practical and will i wear it?" I mean its a faux leather skirt, where the heck do i go to wear something like this?! But after trying it on and finding it was a great fit i thought, heck, i'm going to try and make this work. So, i paired it with this quilted grey sweatshirt and my trusty biker boots for a relaxed daytime outfit. What d'you think, faux leather mini ok for day wear?

I have been a super lazy blogger this week (apologies for that!) My outfits have been very simple and basic this week. Nothing note worthy, but strangely i've been really happy in them. Simple black outfits have been my staple and i'm starting to become totally ok with this. I have given myself a hard time in the past, if my outfit hasn't had loads of interest with multiple layers and accessories and pattern mixing, i worry that i will appear less put together. But slowly i am learning to love a simple outfit. Today's outfit i wore (these photos were taken earlier this week, i was just lazy to post them!) was simple black skinny jeans, black knitted sweater, leopard scarf, brown biker jacket and brown boots. It was so super simple, but i loved it and was complimented on it. I guess what i'm trying to say (perhaps more to myself than to anyone else) is simple can be good. It can be chic and if you feel happy in an outfit then it shows.
Do you ever dress uber simple?
