Girls that wear Glasses...

Did you know?
I am as blind as a bat.
I am a constant contact lens wearer and have been for many years..
I have never enjoyed wearing my glasses, and therefore opted for contact lenses since the age of 18.
But this past week i have had super sore eyes. Sensitive, dry and generally a bit sad.
Sad eyes indeed.
Probably tiredness related due to the delightful sleep snatcher that is insomnia (damn you insomnia!!) But its gotten to the point where my vanity has been cast aside, the contacts came out and the glasses went on.
Now i say vanity because for me i just feel weird in glasses, they feel almost alien on my face like they shouldn't be there, I put this down to my super old glasses possibly? They just don't sit nicely on my face, making me feel all kinds of awkward.
Which got met thinking...What better way to re-introduce my face to frames?
Shopping for some nice new designer frames of course.
Shopping obviously makes everything better.
So where to start?
Inspiration is needed.

Images via

Taking inspiration from Pintrest  and i'm starting to like what i see. Ladies rocking glasses and looking so damn cool (not sure i'll ever look that cool.. with or without glasses for that matter)

I want to change my mindset of glasses from negative to positive, where i no longer feel like i don't want to wear them but that I will happily don my specs.
And lets face it my eyes will most definitely thank me for it.
I love the look of these Givency frames, which i think would make wearing glasses more pleasurable for me.

This is where i ask you lovely glasses wearing readers, do you have any excellent glasses advice?

Love your four eyed friend ;)

Girls that wear glasses...

As a kid who had to wear glasses i remember feeling so uncool, so un-pretty and generally unhappy with these foreign objects on my face. I felt they made me stand out for all the wrong reasons. Well i can not tell you how pleased i am that that time has passed because glasses are now one of the accessories for every occasion, just like handbags and heels. Glasses can give such a great edge to your look and i LOVE that anyone, prescription or not, can wear glasses and look really great. Whether you want to dress them up for a night out, or down for a day at the office, here are some tips and tricks to make your glasses make you stand out for all the right reasons!!

DAYTIME:
WHICH GLASSES? When figuring out which shape to choose for your frames, go by your jawline. If you have a rounder face, opt for more square or rectangular glasses. If you have more of an angular jawline (i.e. square or heart), try going for oval or round shaped glasses. Colour wise? Grey, black, shades of brown or tortoise-shell, or light shades of pink and blue are your best bet for business casual or just a trip to the mall. Thin-rimmed or metal frames are the best style for a professional setting or whipping out reading glasses when you want to look intellectual and classy. They brighten your face more than any pair of thick-rimmed frames would, leaving a sharp impression.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY MAKEUP? Take it easy. You don’t want to counteract the clean look of your glasses by applying crazy amounts of colourful makeup.
*Go light on the eyes with a champagne or cream-coloured eye shadow. Depending on your style, you can choose a shade with hints of shimmer.
*Skip the heavy eyeliner during the day and go straight to the mascara. Apply a lengthening mascara to emphasize your lashes behind yours lenses. Make sure to curl the hairs upward so they don’t hit your lenses.
*Take care of your eyebrows because a lot of attention will be on them when you’re wearing glasses. Make sure they are well-defined, yet natural. Never forget the little things about beauty care, like a quality eyebrow shaping appointment at the local salon.
*Give your cheeks a nice flush with light shades of pink or peach colored blush- depending on your skin tone. Be careful not to use too much! Since your eyes are going to be the main focus, you don’t want to overdo it underneath.
*Wear a nude or light pink lipstick. Skip the gloss or flashy neon lip stain for the daytime, in order to keep a neat, mature look.

HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY HAIR? Since your makeup centralizes around your eyes, the last thing you want to do is hide them behind your hair.
*Pin your hair up and out of your face. A chic high or low ponytail or a low bun will accentuate the look. If you aren’t a fan of having your hair up, you can pin your bangs back into a mini pompadour and leave the remainder of your hair free flowing. You can also try the classic half up, half down style, known for drawing total focus to your face, yet remaining romantic and loose in the back.
*Avoid coloured pins or clips, considering they will do nothing but distract. During the daytime, your eyeglasses should be the main accessory on your face. An overload of clips would be bad news.

NIGHTTIME:
WHICH GLASSES? Contrary to daytime, we want to go for thicker frames to give us more of an edgy appearance in the evening. The same rules apply in terms of eye shape (go by the jawline) but the rules for colour are completely different: there are none! Black or a rich mahogany are a safe bet because they match every outfit. Now that it’s night-time, your look can be obviously fun & flirty, so don’t be afraid to rock a frame with a pop of colour or with a printed interior.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY MAKEUP? Night time makeup leaves a little bit more leeway than the daytime options. The choice is completely yours to decide which part of your face to feature!
*If it’s eyes you want to play up, wear an offbeat eye shadow. As dark tints will appear too heavy on your already covered eyes, avoid a smoky eye. Instead, play around with purple, blue, or green hues. Line the inner eye rim with dark eyeliner and use the same lengthening mascara as before.
*If you want the main focus of the night to be on your cheeks, start by contouring your face with lighter and darker foundations. Then, apply a highlighter to your cheekbones and pair it with your favorite shade of blush. Don’t be afraid to really add some colour at this point! Add a little bronzer around your hairline, jawline, and neck. Keep your eyes light with a neutral eye shadow and a minimal amount of mascara. Avoid any shine when it comes to your lips; instead, apply a solid nude shade.
*If you want to draw attention to your lips, then pick any colour of lipstick you want! You have all the options in the world, from light coral, pink, and red, to dark plums and purples. After applying your lipstick, use the highlighter along your cupid’s bow on the centre of your lips. Additionally, you have the option to add a dab of clear gloss to your lips to make them shine. If you are feeling creative, mix shades of lipstick and gloss to create your own colours. After all - the nighttime is the perfect time to experiment with new looks! Pair this look with light, shimmery eyes, staying natural on your cheeks.

HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY HAIR? Just as night time is the best time to experiment with makeup, you can also take the time to try that hairstyle you’ve been dying to perfect.
*The wavier, the better! When your hair is wet, braid it and then let it dry. The thickness of the braids depends on how wavy you want your hair. Another method for getting waves is to use a crimping iron or a special flat, hot waver. Create a middle part to enhance the framing of your face, so that you don’t get too weighed down by your frames.
*Style a half ponytail or a half bun, but leave a few extra pieces out in front to frame your face. If you want your hair totally up and out of your way, try a thick side braid, or a low or side messy bun.
*Accessorize! Correlate your headpieces to your outfit that night, but be careful not to contradict with the colour of your frames.

Glasses can add an extra hint of style to an everyday outfit in the afternoon or at night. It’s all about how you dress them up (or down) with other accessories, make-up, and hair styles. Don’t be afraid to try any combination; you might create the next big trend!

New Specs..

GlassesUSA.com recently contacted me to see if i would like to review a set of their specs.  So off i popped over to their website where i had a lovely look around their website at all the choices available. After being ever so indecisive and wanting to pick 6 pairs of glasses from their aptly named retro/nerdy section i settled on these:

The whole outfit was inspired by the retro cats eye shape glasses. That and I've been watching a lot of old films lately, I'm just loving the 40's and 50's right now and the lady like way the women dressed back then. Don't get me wrong i love a good jeans day but back then ladies really made an effort everyday.. i mean that's dedication! Some days i roll out of bed and throw on the cleanest least creased jeans i can find and call it an outfit, lol!  But on the days where i can find the time i just love making that little bit of extra effort and it makes me feel so glam!

 Dress & cardi: Very old
Shoes: Hush puppies
Black lined tights: River Island
  ....   Buy Glasses ....

The glasses arrived in 2 days all the way from America, here to the UK. I was very impressed, and for prescription glasses they came to my precise requirements. With the help of their on-line mirror (below) it makes for ordering glasses a much better experience!!

Have you ever ordered eyeglasses on line? I would highly recommend!

*i was gifted these glasses for review and they most definitely get a thumbs up from me!

Easy Like Friday Morning...

EBEW - Back To School

UPDATE: adding this to this months EBEW as it is my favourite preppy look! Hope you like it!!

Hellooo lovelies, welcome to friday! And for us Brits a long Bank holiday weekend, aint that grand!

Shirt: Clothing at Tesco
Blazer: Matalan
Jeans & Brogues: Next
Bag (my laptop case) : Vintage, gifted from hubby
Specs: c/o Firmoo

Remember i mentioned the other day that i was actually in work doing really boring stuff. Well this was what i wore on that boring day, and i was going to say that its quite a boring outfit, for me. No brooches, bangles or bells;) just simple preppy style. I've been wearing this a lot lately. In-fact i've been living in these jeans and this blazer on and off all week. yesterday we had an appointment at the vets (Holly has a bady eye, bless her) and i swapped out the shirt for a simple red and white Breton top.
I think i've been craving me some simplicity. Life around us lately is pretty stressy and crazy so i think i've gone super simple with my clothing. And i've enjoyed it, a lot!
These brogues are now well and truly worn in and feel like slippers, i really wanna wear them with some cute dresses and tights to see if i can work that re mix... any suggestions for what to wear with Brogues?
Do you ever crave simplicity in your outfits?
As much as i enjoyed this, i've also been planning some major colour mixing ensembles, coming to a blog post real soon!
Right ladies, i'm off , got a humongous amount of work to do today, with the possibility of the in laws coming this weekend, some new business ventures to look in to and a huge mess to clean. On top of that i have the mother of all mother headaches... nice! Wish me luck...

Love to you all
xxxx

Ps one week countdown till this fella is 2!! eeeeee
Footnote: this photo is from a few weeks ago, his hair is longer and crazier right now. we judge age my hair craziness I was going to take a photo  and put it here, but he was picking his nose and really, no one wants to see that, not even his mama;) xox

Kissy Kissy

Hello lovelies, and how are we? Good, yes?
Well Mondays rolled round once again as quick as ever!
I managed to get out this weekend to Hobbycraft to stock up on some bits that i need for some crafty plans. Last night i went to bed and crafty goodness was whirling round and round in that lil brain of mine and i'm feeling totally inspired right now! I just want to get my teeth in to a good productive project or two. I'm looking forward to autumn coming by and picking up where i left off last year on the crochet and knitting front too, for some reason these seem like winter sports to me. Summer i just cant seem to pick up those needles. Strange...
I've never been a crafty gal so im really enjoying these new skills im picking up along the way and new hobbies to entertain my over active mind. Only problem is, finding time. I dont even know where im supposed to pluck that from?! Answers on a postcard...please!?!

Lips top: Old originally Dorothy Perkins but i got it from Ebay about 3 years ago
Jeans: F&F Tesco
Shoes: Lotta
Cardi: Super old from Topshop
Bag and belt: Matalan
Necklace: Vintage
Glasses c/o: Firmoo

So again this is mostly old. The jeans are from the new range of jeans in at Tesco right now. Obnoxiously pink jeans were missing from my ever growing coloured jeans collections, so added they were and me likey.(ive also added mustard...prepare to see them a lot, I likey them too!)
The top originally had a floppy wierd bow that just didnt sit right. i bought it ages ago on ebay for pennies and then didnt like it, squirreled it away for 2 years, dug it out by complete fluke the other day whilst sorting stuff out and now love it, plus the stupid floppy bow fell off as i was trying it on. This is why i hate getting rid of clothes. Im fickle!
exhibit b to my fickleness: This cardi. This cardi was bought when i was 18 (eeeek nearly 10 years ago:/ ....) its a size 10 and i used to wear it a fair bit. I then got bored of it and gave it to my mum about 3 years ago. She then got some wear out of it and then forgot about it. For some reason i thought to myself the other day, "oh how i miss that thin striped cardi" random, i know. So i text mummy dearest and what d'you know shes a squirreler too and had it at the back of her wardrobe.
Dont get me wrong i can't do it up but it was perfect for a bit of pattern mixing!

This is why im a hoarder hoarderson!! But a happy one!

Chilled in Chinos

Pretty much spent my weekend as the title says, chilled out in chino's. i am really liking teal and tomato.. who'd have thought those two would go.
I find when i wear lots of dresses i do look forward to some trouser time. This weekend was spent at the park, dog walking and shopping.
I had a horrible feeling this weekend that i may be getting old, reasons being:
I bought the new Newton faulkner album and have been listening to it non stop. My 9 year old step daughter sings all the songs word perfect. I sing along and get all the words wrong! i remember my parents doing that and thinking," Gaaawd they just don't get it"... yup i'm now that parent!
Secondly, a new supermarket (Sainsburys) opened just down the road and i was so excited!  Thats really sad isnt it!? Whats even worse was i really REALLY enjoyed my little jolly there and couldn't stop talking about how lovely the new Sainsburys is.
So this weekend has made me conclude
a. I'm officially old
b. My life is quite pathetic.

Least im old and happy;)
